Window glass, thermal pane, and screen repair

Our in-house shop handles four common jobs: repairing torn window screens, replacing cracked window glass, repairing fogged thermal panes, and building custom screens. Bring the item to any of our three Rochester-area stores for a quote based on its size and the parts it needs.

Screen Repair & Rescreening

If the frame is straight, we pull the old mesh and spline and rescreen it in whatever material you pick. Window screens, screen doors, patio sliders, storm door inserts.

Window Glass Repair

A broken pane in an otherwise sound sash is a repair, not a replacement. Single strength, double strength, 1/4″, tempered, laminated, and Low-E are all available.

Fogged & Failed Thermal Panes

Haze between the panes means the seal failed and moisture got in. We replace the insulated glass unit and leave the existing frame and sash in place.

Custom-Built Screens & Inserts

Custom aluminum screens and storm window inserts built to size, with hardware matched to most residential brands — Andersen, Pella, Marvin, Simonton. Wood work goes to local woodworkers.

How our window and screen repair service works

01

Drop off

Bring your window or screen to any of our three Rochester-area stores. We measure it, identify the parts it needs, give you a quote, and take payment after you approve the work. Pickup and delivery is available for large or heavy items for an additional fee.

02

Repair

Our technicians complete the work in our own repair shop. Most screen repairs are ready in about a week. If we find additional damage, we call with a revised quote and wait for your approval.

03

Pickup

We call when your repaired window or screen is ready.

Choose the right screen mesh

Screen mesh affects how long the repair lasts, how clearly you can see through the window, and how the screen looks from the curb. We can help you compare aluminum, fiberglass, bronze, and SeeVue samples at the counter.

Metal screening

Metal screening options: material, colors, and best use
MaterialColorsBest for
AluminumBrite, charcoalThe traditional choice. Durable, holds its shape, won't sag.
Bronze (copper)NaturalOlder homes, wood doors and porches. Weathers to a dark patina.
SeeVue stainless steelNaturalThe clearest view of anything we carry, and the most durable.

Fabric screening

Fabric screening options: material, colors, and best use
MaterialColorsBest for
FiberglassGray, charcoalLight duty, woven. The standard and the least expensive.
TuffScreen polyesterCharcoalMedium duty. High-traffic doors, porches, pool enclosures.
Pet DefenseCharcoalHeavy duty. Dogs and cats. Holds up where claws go through fiberglass.
UltraVue 2CharcoalImproved visibility. Finer yarn, sharper view, better airflow.
Solar screeningCharcoalWest and south-facing windows. Blocks a large share of heat and glare.
No-See-UmCharcoal20x20 mesh, tight enough to stop gnats and other small insects.

Aluminum and fiberglass mesh are available in widths up to 72 inches. We also stock 50-foot rolls of bronze and SeeVue. Because some wider rolls are kept at one location, call ahead before bringing an oversized panel. Charcoal is the dark screening many people call black. It is less noticeable from inside and looks clean from the curb. Brite aluminum has the traditional, lighter appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does screen repair take?

Most screens are done in about a week. Larger jobs and custom builds take longer, and spring is the busy season.

How much does it cost to repair a window screen?

A basic rescreen on a small window screen starts at $17.64. Pricing is fixed rather than hourly, set by the size of the screen and any parts it needs, such as pins, wheels, handles, tabs or latches.

Do you rescreen panels for screened-in porches?

Yes. We rescreen removable modular panels from screened-in porches. We also often manufacture custom screen panels for new screened-porch construction. Bring us an existing panel or the project dimensions so we can quote the job and help you choose the frame and screening.

How much does it cost to rescreen porch panels?

Pricing depends on the number and size of the modular panels, the screening material, and whether the job needs new frames or hardware. Bring in the panels or your project measurements and we'll quote the job.

Can you rescreen a screen I bring in, or do I need a new one?

If the frame is straight, we rescreen it. Bring the screen itself rather than a measurement, since we need the frame.

Can you build a new screen to fit my window?

Yes. We build custom aluminum window screens and storm window inserts to size, fitted with hardware to match most common residential window brands, including Andersen. For wood frames, local woodworkers build custom inserts and mill replacement pieces to match the original.

Can you make a replacement screen for an Andersen window?

Yes. We build the screen to your opening and fit it with hardware that matches, so it seats in the existing track.

Do you repair screens for sliding patio doors?

Yes, including roller replacement. We also stock patio screen doors if yours is past repair.

What's the best screen material if I have a dog or cat?

Pet Defense. It's a heavy-duty molded screening that holds up to claws where standard fiberglass tears. Most people put it on sliding doors first, since that's where pets do the damage.

Is there a window screen you can barely see?

Two options. UltraVue 2 uses a finer yarn for a sharper view and better airflow. SeeVue is stainless steel and gives the clearest view of anything we carry.

Do you carry screening that keeps out gnats and no-see-ums?

Yes. No-See-Um screening uses a 20x20 mesh, tight enough to stop insects that walk straight through standard screening.

Can you fix a foggy window?

Yes. Fog between panes means the seal on the insulated unit failed. We replace the glass unit and keep the existing frame, which costs much less than a new window.

Do you replace broken glass in a window

Yes. We remove the old glass and glazing, cut a new pane and reglaze the sash.

Do you sell screen spline and corners if I want to do it myself?

Yes. We stock spline in several diameters, screen corners including adjustable ones, frame pins, and screen frame stock. Bring the broken part and we'll match it.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

Yes, for an additional fee, which helps for patio sliders and other large or heavy items.

Is it cheaper to repair a window than replace it?

Usually. If the frame is sound, repairing glass, screening or hardware costs far less than a full window replacement.
